The History of Barge 'Luciole'

'Luciole' began her life in 1926 at Dunquerque as a mule-drawn vessel, the 'Ponctuel'. Later equipped with an engine, she carried some 180 tonnes of cargo.

In 1966 she was converted as the first 'hotel-barge', the 'Palinurus', for 22 passengers. Aquired by John Liley's company Inland Voyages Limited in 1985, and renamed 'Luciole' (Firefly) she had her saloon roof raised, and the interior completely rebuilt with larger and fewer cabins and private bathrooms throughout.

Progressive improvements since have included a complete doubling and rebuilding of the hull in 2000, the installation of a new engine and generators, remodelling of saloon and cabins and extension of the air-conditioning system.

Further updating and refurbishment of the 'Luciole' is ongoing.
